How to fill out reader qualification forms

All the the free magazines require you to fill out a questionnaire to "qualify" to receive the magazine. Some questionnaires are rather extensive, others are quite brief. Many people look at the form and immediately assume they will not qualify and don't even try. Here are some hints on how to fill out these forms...

  • Never say you are not employed, not involved, do not influence, etc.
  • When asked about your business, if you have a business, use your business name. If you are an independent consultant and do not use a business name, make one up like <your last name> Software Associates. Use this name consistently in all qualification forms.
  • When asked for numbers where you influence decisions, include in your calculations everyone who has ever asked you for advice on buying a computer or software. This includes all of your clients and their staffs. I'm sure you have talked about new computers over lunch many times - that counts!
